The project "Juli" came by itself: Our model Naoko has a semiacoustic equivalent named Esperanza, so consequently Ava needed one, as well. Unlike Esperanza, that has a clear construction for electric playing, we wanted to emphasize Juli's acoustic side which makes it some kind of a hybrid of a semiacoustic and an acoustic Jazz guitar.
The 3mm thick, roasted spruce top has an X-bracing without a coupling to the back (except for the sides, of course), that is made of figured walnut. Both back and top are glued on arched sides so they get a certain tension. We decided to make soundholes for this one, to rise the acoustic part in the electrified tone.
Neck and fretboard are both roasted maple, a wood that we already loved on Jacques . The frets are 6105-style EVO gold, that are very durable. The headstock front picks up the walnut wood, as well as the tailpiece, that we make from brass and cover with a veneer. The bridge is an elegant ABR-style bridge by Berlin based manufacturer ABM, standing on a walnut base.
The pickup is a Dynasonic-type by Mojo Pickups. Super dynamic, brillant, fat. And it reacts so good on playing around with the volume and tone knobs, which makes this guitar very versatile. Thanks to it fast attack, it can be very funky and with a little twist on the tone knob it gets mellow and warm.
We are very satisfied with this first version. A second one Mario has built for himself and there will be more - promised!
